I’m sure we’ve all heard one time or another that our words have power. The Bible also mentions this but what exactly does it mean when the Bible says that the tongue holds the power of life and death. When you think about the effects certain words can have on somebody’s life or even your own you may start to understand what this verse means. Words full of anger and hate can kill relationships and tear apart lives. Often times angry words will just make others feel angry and hurt also. But if we speak life and love we will be able to grow relationships and build each other up. When we speak with love we can diffuse situations and become closer with others. When we speak something whether good or bad we give it power which is why we should be careful and not too quick to speak. Our thoughts often determine what we say and do so we should keep Jesus on our minds in all situations as he set the perfect example on how to love and speak life.
Prayer:
Thank you, God for giving us the ability to speak life into our situations. Please help us to have self-control to not give in to negative thoughts and to always speak words of love that builds up others. Thank you for the love that you always show us. Please guide us on the path that you have for us and help us to keep all of our faith in you. Thank you for the grace and mercy you show us each day. Thank you for protecting us and providing for us. Please help us to think before we speak and say things that would be pleasing to you and benefit others. Thank you for giving us joy and please help us to spread your love to others, in Jesus name we pray, Amen.
Scripture:
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Ephesians 4:29 NIV
