We Are Called to Love
Something a lot of people may not know about Christians is that above all else we are called to love. Love God then people, that means all people whether we particularly like them or not our job is to love them. Sometimes it’s hard to love people we don’t like but Peter gives us a few tips to help us. Sympathize, it’s very important to try to put yourself in other people’s shoes and imagine walking through their situations. This will help you understand why people do certain things and it will help you love them better. Be tenderhearted and sensitive to others feelings and situations. Lastly, but perhaps most important, keep a humble attitude this can be quite challenging for most of us. Often times pride creeps in from places we didn’t even know it could. Being easily offended, feeling self-pity, or even having too deep of a sense of dignity are all pride related feelings. At its root, pride is thinking of yourself too much, the best way to be happy is to think of others happiness. By putting all these things into practice, we will become better at loving people unconditionally, the way Jesus loves us.
Prayer:
Thank you God for loving us in such an amazing way, that your love doesn’t rely on what we do, but it’s simply who you are. Please help us to be able to love the way you do, endlessly and unconditionally. Please help us to be sensitive to other people and sympathize with their situations. Please help us to think of ourselves less and think of you more. Please help us to be humble and take away all pride. Please give us a heart to serve however we can. Thank you for guiding our lives in the direction you have planned. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
