Don't go backward. Our life looks very different now than before we were saved. When you meet Jesus your life will be radically changed, whether it is immediately or over time as your relationship strengthens, it is inevitable that you will be different.
When we get saved our desires change, we no longer want to chase after things of this world but instead our Savior. The more we know God and his word the more we can be obedient to Him. The more our life will change and start to look more like Jesus's life.
Just because you are saved doesn't mean your life will be easy. It doesn't mean you will never struggle or make mistakes. Sometimes it can be easy to slip back into old patterns and habits. Often times the things our old self did will be the things we are comfortable in. So sometimes it requires being uncomfortable for growth. It requires pushing yourself and truly surrendering control into God's hands. Without His help we can't make the change, infact we wouldn't even know what changes to make without His guidance.
Now that we are saved and know better, we need to strive to do better. We need to allow God to mold us and shape us into His faithful servants. We need to hold onto our faith and allow God to fill us with strength. If you make a mistake don't beat yourself up. It doesn't mean that you are suddenly set back to the same person you used to be or that you can't keep working toward change. Don't get discouraged, ask for forgiveness and strength from God to do better and keep allowing God to change your heart and your life. We aren't perfect but when we commit to serving the Lord we can rely on God to guide us and help us along our path.
Prayer:
Lord we ask that you forgive us for the sins we have made knowingly and unknowingly. We repent for the times we followed our ways instead of yours. We are letting go of control and placing it in your hands. Replace our patterns and habits with new habits. Habits that honor you and bring you glory. Help us to remember we are made in your image, and to strive to be more like you everyday, in Jesus name we pray Amen.
Verse:
So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. 1 Peter 1:14 NLT
